Now Everyone Wants a Dual Monitor Setup!
By Vincent E. Martin
Pros: Small form factor, Dual DVI or VGA output; 512MB SDRAM

Cons: None so far

Bottom-Line: In the VisionTek Radeon HD 4350 we have picked a sure winner. Not only is the adapter affordable, but it delivers outstanding performance with plenty of room to grow.

Over the years I have found that one is much more productive with a lot of screen real estate. The wider the display of course, the more information one can squeeze between the corners. But, not everyone, including me, can afford a wide screen display, so we fall back on the next best thing, the dual monitor set-up.

Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 made attaching multiple monitors to one computer infinitely easier, and Microsoft Windows 7 only takes this functionality to the next level by automatically detecting each new display, numbering it, and making it read for use. Of course all of this nifty functionality is depended on the video card/adapter; it has to be able to support two or more monitors. At work the move is on the place two monitors on everyone desk. Our display adapter of choice: the PCI-E based VisionTek RADEON HD 4350 DMS59 Video Card with 512MB of DDR2 VRAM onboard.

The Adapter

The short form factor, low profile VisionTek Radeon HD 4350 graphics adapter card uses the ATI Radeon GPU to provide multi-monitor support (up to 2 displays). Although the card is advertised as a low profile unit, the card is convertible to standard ATX design with (included) tall bracket for standard chassis.

Combining completely new and efficient ultra-threaded core architecture with ATI's revolutionary Avivo video and display technology, the VisionTek Radeon HD 4350 DMS59 offers full support for Microsoft DX10.1 and DX9. The VisionTek Radeon HD4350 DMS59 is ideal for office productivity, modest gaming, multimedia, and other workstation applications.

Installation (Hardware/Software):

Installation of the VisionTek Radeon HD 4350 DMS59 is a pretty straight forward affair; the card sits comfortably in any available PCI-e slot. Most of our installations are in Dell GX 500 series desktop computers wherein there is little room to spare, so the small form factor design of the card is most welcome. Once locked into place the VisionTek Radeon HD 4350 DMS59 was ready to use with Windows XP SP2/3, or in a small number of cases, Windows 7 Enterprise.

The box includes cables to connect dual monitors via DVI or VGA; I chose DVI hooking the cables to Dell 190P series displays. It's worth noting that even though the card is installed and providing output for dual monitors, the integrated display adapter will still work (depending on BIOS settings). On my computer, a Dell 9000 series workstation I utilize both the VisionTek Radeon HD 4350 adapter and the integrated video adapter with Windows 7 Enterprise installed.

Once in place I powered on the PC. I skipped the software installation, but installed the driver stack for a 64-bit OS. Once that chore was complete I used Windows 7 display properties to configure the various cards and assign the appropriate numbers to my (3) monitors. That's it, the whole install process took less than 10 minutes to accomplish including the BIOS configuration.

First Impressions:

I like this card, a lot! Even without the installation of the VisionTek (ATI) specific software, the adapter's performance is exceptional, however the included software does deliver an imposing set of tools that give one unmatched control over the graphics environment, but what I use my business computer for the overhead would not be worth the effort.

The VisionTek Radeon HD 4350 is a decent dual-port video graphics card. The picture is clear, crisp, bright, and well defined; the colors are vibrant and true to life; the text is sharp and remarkably in-focus and crisp; and the monitor flickers not a bit even at refresh rate of 60Hz. I am seeing images in a whole new light with the VisionTek Radeon HD 4350; the colors no longer blend together in a confusing mix of off-hued pixels; indeed colors are realistic down to the minutest of details.

I am not a gamer, nor a graphics designer, so I will come nowhere close to putting this card through its true paces, or realizing the full potential of the PCI-e, on-board processor, SDRAM technology. Nonetheless I like the feeling of knowing that I have barley touched the potential of the card, that as I place new demands on it, it will deliver without hesitation.

Video, VCD and DVD playback are the most impressive improvement over the VisionTek Radeon HD 4350. Video playback through the VisionTek Radeon HD 4350 is outstanding at the standard size, and I am happy to report that image quality suffers only minutely at full screen with DVD, VCD, .ASF, .MOV, or Mpeg formats. And of course GoTo Meeting, WebEx, and other video conferencing/ sharing technologies present no issue for the adapter.

Conclusions:

In the VisionTek Radeon HD 4350 we have picked a sure winner. Not only is the adapter affordable, but it delivers outstanding performance with plenty of room to grow. ATI is one of the oldest and most trusted names in computer graphics, and the VisionTek Radeon HD 4350 continues their tradition of offering superior products at a reasonable price. If you are looking for the perfect mate for Windows 9.xx / 2000 /XP, or Windows 7 at or slightly above the $100.00 price-point, look no further than the VisionTek Radeon HD 4350.

Good product
By Mr. M
I have a modest computer w/ only a couple available PCIex1 slots (not PCIe x16) and wanted to run 4 monitors w/ out breaking the bank. Bought 2 and it worked out great on my win7 box b/c they were (a) PCIe x1, (b) didn't need an external power source (c) slim and didn't take up 2 slots like other cards (d) came w/ the 2 connector adapter and (e) new enough that AMD/ATI still offers good driver support. I'm not a gamer so didn't consider any performance aspects of the card. I cared about getting the screen realestate.

This is the card you want to ressurect a DELL E310 with a PCI Express x1
By Aaron Griffith
I bought the Readeon 4350 and it worked instantly no problems. The dell does find it and does call it an "audio device" at first. Do not use the "wizard" to load the drivers. Just go into the "device manager" and "right click" the device and choose to install or update drivers. Then choose to load them from a location of your choice. Tell it to find the drivers on the driver disc that is loaded in your disc drive.

I can get online now and play WORLD OF TANKS no problem. And I'm running it at a
very high quality. Very happy.

(Before putting in card)
Turn on Dell.
Press F2 at Blue DELL loading.
Enter bios. Go to Video.
Primary Video. Press enter.
The video is set on AUTO. Set it to ONBOARD.
(If you don't do this befor you put in the card your PC will be in conflict and the monitor will not turn on.)
Now go to MY COMPUTER and RIGHT CLICK.
CLICK MANAGE. Go to DEVICE MANAGER. DISABLE ONBOARD VIDEO.
Power down.
NOW
Place card in. Power on.
(Now you will go in and load the drivers for the card. Power down. Power up and enter the bios again and set it back to auto. Back out of the bios and SAVE. Swap the video cable. Reboot.)

Gigabyte 7970
By Jassim
This thing is fantastic, and the memory cooling (much better than referance) allowed me to OC memory to 1800. Now since this isn't binned, I got unlucky, my core only goes to 1180 stable, but I'm perfectly content with it.

The card stays really cool, much cooler than my old lightening 6970. Me posting my own values is worthless because you guys will have different case setups etc.

Regardless, my maximum temps at 1625mv memory, 1200mv Core 1180mh core and 1800mhz memory are 62-3 degrees peaking with powerdraw unlocked with 100% gpu load and 100% fan speed. This is probably pulling something ridiculous like 300w. On BF:3 MAX 100% settings it stays at 59% fan speed, and never goes above 56 degrees Celsius. Just for referance, at my OC I get a minimum of 55 fps and a maximum of 78 fps infantry on a 64 player map on back to karkand (BF:3). In a jet it goes way over 120, but it's normally around 62-5fps during infantry gun battles. In a heli it can dip to 44 fps when I'm being rocket spammed, but it's still playable.

Please not everybody OCing may differ. At idle It's currently at 50 degrees, but right now I'm in 2d clocks which is higher than normal. My case fans are also powered down slightly. On idle (one monitor) clocks, it's at 32 degrees minimum fan speed. Please note I also have a 1080p video playing in my left monitor atm.

I am really happy with this card, and I wish amazon.com would restock it as I plan to purchase two more. If not I'll have to find another website to buy it from. This is also the best TWO SLOT COOLER hands down. Please note the cooler is open, so hot air is dumped into your chassis, with a less airflow-optimized chassis, this'll be bad, and in multi-gpu configurations with this card it will probably cause lots of heat build up.

My specs:

3930k
Sabertooth x79
7970 gigabyte - this product
16gb (4x4gb) Corsair vengeance ram - 16gb (4x4gb) samsung ram coming soon :D.
Coolermaster Haf X (modded fans in front bays and in bottom of case)
Blu-ray burner - Pioneer
Coolermaster silent pro gold 1200w (1300w platinum coming soon sleeved)
SSD boot drive 512gb samsung 830
HDD's Raid 0 Seagate 1tb x2

H100 fans are Excalibur fans, very quiet and good for radiator PWM fans.

I really suggest getting this card if you plan on doing 2-3 way crossfirex as it's the COOLEST and QUIETEST 2-slot cooler for gpu's hands down. I cannot notice the fans until 38%, and I do not feel it's louder than my case fans (with CPU load and 2 pwm fans) until 59%. I cannot bear it after 64%, but before that it seems to blend in and stay nice and quiet...

Please note the gigabyte has NO ACCESSORIES. You will need a 8 pin and a 6 pin PCIe connector to power it. TDP at stock volts and power control is 225 watts MAXIMUM.

I really do hope amazon.com will restock these cards soon for me to pickup more and for others to get some. Thanks for reading, and I really hope my review helped.

Recommendations for 7970:
If you've decided you want cooler/quieter temps over more heat inside the case:
2 slot cards:
Gigabyte, quietest card, best cooling at lower noise(less turbulence)/lower fan rpms - not a great benefit between 59% and 100%, 2-4 degrees at 1180mhz core, because the heat-sink is quite thin, but under normal usage (up to like 1250core I'd say) it'll be adequate. Alternatively, more air will blow down on the pcb and allow for slightly more air to reach vrm/memory.
Msi lightening, best ocer - more expensive, louder (it's coming in 2 weeks from this review) - BEST OCER. It will probably have binned cpu's, the core will be able to reach much higher, due to you being able to push more than 1300v (than what the normal cards are limited to), it can cool better at HIGHER fan speeds, due to dense heatsink, this means it's noisier and cools less at lower can speeds comparatively. The memory on lightening cards can't be OCed as much as referance memory, most people will be able to agree (including me) as they use a different vendor, however their core clock will be able to OC more.
Sapphire dual X - good quality, nice accoustics, inferior memory/vrm cooling to gigabyte card, but almost matched cooling - looks better (fans and pcb) - slightly better build quality (plastic)
Powercolor - Good cooler, quiet, worse quality vrm's than stock and lightening (so you wont be able to pump as much voltage in for u extreme guys) - great price!
XFX - Very good looks, decent cooling, decent noise, amazing customer service, decent warranty and accessories, BAD MEMORY/VRM cooling - some people have had MAJOR issues with this card as they do not have a heatsink/spreader on some components - great availability

Notes:
I am not aware of a HIS non reference cooler.
If any of my information is wrong, or seems biased, please feel free correct me with a link for proof.
Denser heat-sinks = more cooling capacity, will need higher static pressure (more RPM) to do so (otherwise worse off at lower pressure), noisier (SLIGHTLY).
Less Dense is the opposite = less cooling capacity - more pressure doesn't do much to help cool (you can manage with MUCH less rpm and more conservative clocks).

Biased part:
Coil whine is experienced with all 7970's. Some people go insane by it, others don't. I only hear it when I unlock power draw, although others have reported (unconfirmed) that they experience it all the time under 3d load with other companies. I don't know anyone else with the gigabyte card who's experienced coil whine at gaming-load/3d burn test so eehh.

Tip: The plastic on the gigabyte card looks nice in photos but irl it's slightly transparent (opaque) so it looks (and feels) cheap. However it's VERY STRONG. It feels bad under your hand, but it's definitely solid. The gigabyte PCB is also reference 100% which is good for you water-coolers, and is a matte pale blue (most are black). The screws for the cooler are VERY tight and are spring loaded screws, not normal ones.

I hope this helped you!

Quadfire Purchase
By Node
I recently bought 4 of these cards for a high-performance computing desktop. Chose the Gigabyte setup for the price and cooling solution used by this card.

Pros:
-Best Radeon card yet IMHO, solid GCN architecture, unbeatable computing performance currently (even has 1/4th performance in 64bit computing!).
-Great gaming performance, all you'll need for a long time.
-Cooling is great for single card, or well spaced multi-card setups (personally seen 63-72C range fully loaded, lower in games, depending upon spacing)
-Quiet single card, audible multi-card.
-Overclocks well (1120Mhz stable for weeks in current cooler setup)

Cons:
-Cooling solution requires separation to work properly, stacking cards together will cause them to suck in hot air from the other card and crash.
-1 of the 4 cards has instabilities which causes it to crash intermittently under full load, the other 3 are perfectly fine.
-Running the cards in a crossfire setup will cause some 'coil whine', this effect is more pronounced in a Quadfire setup and absent in a single card setup.

A couple of thoughts:
-I Do not recommend Quadfire setups for gaming, current games are easily handled by 1 card, and two cards are generally still an overkill. Additionally support for Quadfire setups in gaming is quite absent causing such a setup to give you no advantage in those games.
-I do recommend the 7970 for computing projects (OpenCL), and scales well with more cards if your problems are well defined.
-For those wondering a 1200w PSU was sufficient and stable for Quadfire with a stock-clocked Core i5, 3570K CPU.

Not compatible with full cover blocks
By Michael Ruskai
I bought one of these in March 2012, which has a reference PCB compatible with full-cover water blocks. The latest one I ordered has a rev 2.0 PCB which is not reference, and will not fit with a full-cover water block. I did not evaluate that card at all with air cooling, but I've been running the original one that way since March (was planning to switch to water cooling with the two cards in the next couple weeks).

With air cooling, the card runs much cooler and quieter than a reference 7970 (and leagues quieter than my XFX 5970 4GB, which had the same cooling design as the 6990). As an air-cooled card, I would rate this five stars. You just can't cool the later versions properly with water.

Impressive card
By Kelly
Impressive describes this card. Only thing I have that can stress this card is playing Crysis 2, DirectX 11 patch, high-resolution pack, all settings cranked to the max available. No abnormalities or slowdowns on any of the levels as long as I keep the card temperature down. Heaven DX11 Benchmark runs flawlessly without any issues, even with the fan sitting at default idle speed.

From card running at idle to full load underneath Crysis 2, the total wattage increase is only 200 watts. At idle it seems to draw 10 watts more than the ATI 5770 card it replaced.

Card has over twice the raw thru put of the previous card it replaced but the GPU rendering in Sony Vegas only improved 20% which indicates the drivers need serious work to improve it. Photoshop CS identifies the ATI OpenCL drivers and gives full GPU acceleration.

Sitting at idle, the card temperature is 57°C while the motherboard and CPU are sitting at 85°F! Default fan speed is to slow and allows the card to heat up to much whether at idle or at max. Setting the fan speed to 40% drops the temperature over 12°C without much noise. When playing games, I manually set the fan speed to 50-60% to keep the temps down in the 60-65°C range. The fan is loud at the higher speeds, but its low pitch sound makes it more bearable. At 100% it's impressive the amount of air it can move and how loud it is.

In my computer, the card has a 230mm fan on the left, two 140mm fans to the front, two 120mm fans to the back, and another 230 mm fan above so the card has cool air blowing across it at all times. When playing Crysis 2 or GPU rendering, it's impressive the amount of heat the card blows out of its vents. If you have a computer that normally runs hot, I'd look at one of the other brands with multiple fans. Many people have reported cards that run much cooler than this one, but others have cards that have temps like mine.

I'd prefer a higher stock fan speed even with more noise. The temps are the only reason I don't rate it 5 stars.

Runs perfect and at 1125/1575 clocks all day without any voltage adjustment. Package came with two important cables that are usually not shipped with any cards except Sapphire. Overall my first Diamond card and a very pleasant experience. 10/10.

I purchased this card to replace an AMD 5770. I've replaced the stock bios with a 7970 GHz bios (official release) which increases stock clocks from 925/1375 to 1050/1500. The card runs at these speeds perfectly with no increase in temperatures. I get 30-35° in idle and 70-75° at full load in the most demanding games. Battlefield 3 runs super smooth at 1920x1080 as well as all recent games i've tried (Arkham City, Dota 2, Skyrim, Starcraft 2, etc.) The card is not noisy at all. I still have plenty of room to overclock but so far the current speeds are more than enough. I'd recommend this card to anyone who wants to enjoy smooth gameplay with little noise and a medium budget.
